Sensory Study Room

The Sensory Study room on Level 3 of the James Joyce Library supports students with sensory needs.

It provides students with sensory needs the opportunity to regulate their responses to the environment they study in.

Features include: 

  • Variety of seating to meet individual needs
  • Textured fabric walls to support acoustic management
  • A calm environment, using a muted colour pallette
  • Limited visual stimulus within the space
  • Colour wheel lighting system - for users to control lighting locally

This room has 5 individual study spaces and can be booked for a maximum of 2 hours per day.

Sensory Transition Room

The Sensory Transition room on Level 3 of the James Joyce Library is for students who are finding self-regulation challenging. This space allows them to disengage, to regulate, and to re-engage again before moving to another space in the Library. 

Features include:

  • Variety of seating to meet individual needs, support movement and provide relaxation
  • Walk way space for people who manage sensory load through pacing
  • Sensory wall - to help manage sensory overload
  • Textured fabric walls to support acoustic management
  • A calm environment, using a muted colour pallette
  • Limited visual stimulus within the space

This room has 4 individual spaces and can be booked for 30 minute intervals. If required, students may book a further slot later the same day.
