Laptop Loans

The Library offers two types of laptop loans.

  • Library Use laptops – for use inside the library only
  • Campus Use laptops – for use on Belfield campus only

How to borrow a laptop

  • Scan your UCard at the kiosk
  • Follow the on-screen instructions
  • Take the laptop from the locker
  • Return and plug it in

Library Use laptops

Green Laptop Loan Kiosk

  • Borrow from kiosks in the James Joyce Library and Health Sciences Library
  • For use inside the library only – laptops cannot be taken outside
  • Borrow for up to 4 hours
  • Return to the kiosk before the Library closes and plug it in

 

Terms of Use:

  • You are responsible for the laptop at all times
  • Do not leave it unattended or give it to anyone else
  • The laptop must stay inside the library
  • Do not save files on the laptop – all files will be deleted when it is shut down
  • Save your work to Google Drive or another online service
  • If the laptop is lost, stolen or damaged, you may have to pay a fine or the replacement cost

Campus Use laptops

Grey Laptop Loan Kiosk

  • Borrow from the grey laptop kiosk (lockers ZA–ZD), near the entrance gates to the James Joyce Library
  • For use on Belfield campus only – laptops cannot be taken off campus
  • Borrow for up to 4 hours
  • Return to the kiosk before the Library closes and plug it in

Using a laptop

  • Do not save files on the laptop – all files will be deleted when it is shut down
  • Save your work early and often to Google Drive or another online service
  • Log out of all websites and applications before you return the laptop
  • Shut down the laptop when you are finished
  • Plug the laptop back in when returning it to the locker. If it is not plugged in correctly, it will stay on your account and may lead to charges

If you cannot borrow

The kiosk may not let you borrow if:

  • You have overdue items
  • You have fines on your account

If this happens, please go to the nearest Library Information Desk and staff will help you.
