Open Access: Research Repository UCD

This guide introduces Open Access and Open Research. It includes information on open access publishing, methods of open research and how to meet funder open access/research requirements.

Research Repository UCD

Research Repository UCD is a digital collection of open access scholarly research publications from University College Dublin. Authors can use the repository to publish via the green open access route. There is no fee to authors to deposit in the repository.

The repository collects, preserves and makes freely available publications including peer-reviewed articles, working papers, conference papers, book chapters, etc. created by UCD researchers.

Submitting material to the Repository is not intended to be an alternative to standard publication. It is a complementary approach designed to showcase UCD's research output, and to provide a searchable, multi-disciplinary, managed and curated open access resource. The published version of the research output will also be available in a venue of your choice and there will be a link to this published version from the cover page of the Repository version.

Authors can submit material via the UCD Research Management System or directly to the Repository. See instructions below.

Visit the Research Repository UCD Guide for more detailed information:

Uploading to Research Repository UCD (staff with RMS account)

Uploading to Research Repository UCD can be done through UCD’s Research Management System. In most cases you are permitted to upload the Author Accepted Manuscript version (post peer review, prior to publication) of your publication.

  1. Go to UCD Connect.
  2. Select Research Management System (RMS).
  3. Login using your UCD Connect details.
  4. From the Menu Bar select My Profile.
  5. From there, select My Work.
  6. Under the My Work menu, select Research Outputs.
  7. Click the +Deposit button beside the publication you wish to make an open access version available. The publication in question must be listed on your RMS profile to do this.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions from there.

If you have any questions, contact research.repository@ucd.ie, especially if you require your deposited material to be fast tracked. Visit the Research Repository UCD Guide linked above for further details.

Uploading to Research Repository UCD (staff/students without RMS account)

These instructions apply to any UCD affiliate that does not have a UCD RMS profile (https://people.ucd.ie/) and wishes to upload UCD theses, publications or grey literature that they have authored or co-authored.

  1. Contact RRU staff at research.repository@ucd.ie to have an account created on the repository. Include details of your affiliation such as School, Research Centre etc.
  2. An account will be created using your UCD email address as the username (e.g. jane.smith@ucdconnect.ie).
  3. You will receive an email from research.repository@ucd.ie to set a password.
  4. Login from the repository homepage (https://researchrepository.ucd.ie) using your new password.
  5. Once logged in, select MyDSpace from the User Profile Menu on the top right of the screen.
  6. Ensure you are uploading the version of the manuscript permitted by the publisher. This is usually the Author Accepted Manuscript (the version after peer review, but before publication).
  7. Upload your file into the Drag and Drop box by dragging it or using the browse option.
  8. Select a Collection to place you research output in. RRU staff will have already assigned you to one or more collections.
  9. Fill out the fields that appear in input screen with all available information, after you have selected a collection.
  10. Select Save for later if you wish to return to this another time.
  11. Once a green tick appears beside the required fields, click the +Deposit button to complete first stage of submission to the repository.
  12. Library staff will now check the details, the version uploaded and the publisher’s copyright policy and make your work available on the repository.

Contact research.repository@ucd.ie for questions of if an item needs to be fast tracked. Visit the Research Repository UCD Guide linked above for further details.
