This guide covers how in-text citations and references should be formatted in the MLA Style, 9th Edition.
Plays (read in written form)
Reference: Author Last name, First name. Title. Publisher, Year of Publication.
Example: Carr, Marina. Plays Three. Faber & Faber, 2015.
In-Text-Citation:
- (Author Last name Page no or act, scene and line no)
- (Page no or act, scene and line no.s)
Example:
- In this selection of the plays gender is addressed (Carr 43)….
- Carr has portrayed (43)….
Note: In the full reference/Works Cited section, list the author's name as it appears in the work, i.e. last name and full first name or last name and initials.
Note: To cite the act, scene and line number it is done as in this example (Carr, 1.1.17).
