Tailte Éireann Datasets

This service is provided by the National Mapping Division of Tailte Éireann (formerly OSi) in conjunction with UCD Library and is intended to provide selected data at no cost at point-of-delivery. The datasets cover the area within the Republic of Ireland.

Tailte Éireann permits Research Graduates, Post-Docs, Academics and Staff use Tailte Éireann datasets.  It is supplied solely for non-commerical purposes: teaching, research, academic and general university business use.

  Choose From the Following Datasets by completing and submitting this form

• Building Polygons of Ireland _ ITM (over 365,0000 buildings)
• National Land Cover_ITM
• Water ITM_2020 (point, polygon and line format for lakes, streams, rivers, canals, ponds, harbours, sea areas)
• Height data - DTM 10m (Data is available as a 10 metre DTM with an accuracy of + or – 1.5 metres.  Processed from 10 metre contours and imagery captured in 2021.) *
• National FileGeodatabase Ways - Roads, Streets, Motorways, Paths
• Other - Please describe data required (we will contact Tailte Éireann on your behalf)

* DTM 10m dataset also can be supplied as 244 individual CSV files ; or as a GRID file generated from the CSV files. If you would like to receive either of these datasets please enter your request into the 'Other' description box of the form.

Both sets of data are in vector format and in the Irish Grid projection coordinate system.    Resolution: Contours: vertical interval of 10m.

Discovery Tiles Index

Click on the Discovery Index above to find the tile (s) you need. Each of the 251 tiles which cover the country are represented on the squares above. Tiles for your area of interest are available to obtain by request by completing the online application form above.

For each square shown above two tiles can be supplied, e.g. 1838_C for the contour lines layer and 1838_D for the Discovery vector layer. Don't forget to ask for both!

Here's an enlarged extract from the index which shows you how to find the right tile number:

Read the Eastings along the bottom of the grid, followed by the Northings up the side to get your tile number.

Read the number on the vertical line at the left hand side of the square you need. Next, read the number on the horizontal line below the square you need. In this example above the square coloured blue is tile number 2408. In other words the Easting number is 24 and the Northing number is 08.

Tailte Éireann Discovery Contours Data in Shapefile format for Republic of Ireland - in Irish Grid (IG) coordinate system

This option allows you to request Tailte Éireann Discovery Contours for the Republic of Ireland in shapefile format. Only the contour data is included in this shapefile, it does not include the Discovery Vector Base Map data.

PRIME II DATA

Every building, road, fence, waterway, site boundary, field, etc., is represented as a Point, Line or Polygon in Tailte Éireann's most detailed and most up-to-date spatial dataset. PRIME II Data is supplied as individual tiles - the tile numbers are identical to the 1:1000, 1:2500 and 1:5000 sheet numbers.

When the form is completed click on the Submit button to send your request

During weekday working hours the submitted mapping request will be responded to within 48 hours.
